Stonefeather is a band I hold close to my heart. These three amazingly talented guys were a huge part of my life during my time living in Los Angeles & I had the opportunity to see firsthand just how hard they work & how passionate they are about making music. Our meeting, in fact, almost never happened. While shooting my first show in LA back in February at Echo in Silver Lake, I had just finished up shooting the third band when friends I was with wanted to leave. On our way out the door, Dave Rundell, Stonefeather’s drummer, grabbed my arm, asked us why we were leaving, then guaranteed us a great show if only we would stay for one song. We stayed for the entire set & I ended up shooting more photos for their band than I had shot for the previous three combined. I was hooked on their fun funk rock sound & these guys weren’t afraid to rock out, get crazy, & have a good time. Their chemistry & charisma was evident from the first note & their talent is undeniable. Over the course of my remaining months in LA I had the pleasure of getting to know these guys as close friends, sitting in on practices, shooting a handful more shows at an array of other venues, including The House of Blues Sunset, & one of my favorite venues, The Viper Room on the Sunset Strip. We also had the chance to do a photo shoot, all of which can be found on the KelliePhotographie Facebook. Lead singer & guitarist, Ian Thomas McCulloch, has a voice & smile that will melt your soul, & bassist Zachary Kibbee has a penchant for stripping down to his multi-colored undies onstage usually mid-jump. Stonefeather’s range is insane, playing everything from full sets, to acoustic shows, to McCulloch bringing unexpected rap verses in the midst of more serious songs. Stonefeather knows how to keep their music fresh & unexpected. Check out their newest song, “My Love” below; it features the more serious side of this band, with heartfelt lyrics inspired by McCulloch’s life that are profound, sincere, & raw.
Be sure to get all their music, including the newest EP, Plain People, which debuted August 30 on iTunes
